In general, when the newspaper story tells about a (black) (man) suspect killed or beaten by Pittsburgh police in an unmarked car, it's a
99 car. These squads are responsible for
- taking more guns off the street than any other police activity
- more cop-on-black violence than any other police activity

The Citizen Police Review Board will hold a public hearing this week on the policies and procedures of deploying plainclothes "99 cars" by Pittsburgh Police.
The hearing will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Pittsburgh City Council Chambers, 5th Fl. City County Bldg., 414 Grant St., Downtown.
Public comment is invited and limited to 3 minutes. Advocacy groups, please designate a spokesperson.
