After NASA shut down the Space Shuttle Program, the remaining shuttles and replicas were divided among several cities as museum displays. Over the past few weeks shuttles were transported by various means to their new homes. The Enterprise was flown to New York City piggybacked on its special -747 carrier, and then landed by Capt. Chesley Sullenberger in order to deliver it to the waterfront Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, located at Pier 86 at 46th Street on the West Side of Manhattan.
