Joe Magarac: A Worker's Labor

Last Saturday I had the occasion to be in the United Steelworkers building, and in the lobby there's a sculpture with no signage or title evident.

I thought, that's got to be a "Joe Magarac" and a little research confirms that it is.

This one is really beautiful, and it's almost a Christ-like rendition of the head. It's an elegant depiction of a working man's labor, so appropriate for that setting.

There are other Joe Magarac's in Wilkinsburg, Braddock, and on Sixth Avenue downtown, but I think this simple, elegant sculpture is the best.
