Washington Post Peep Show

Each year, in the week prior to Easter, the Washington Post has a competition of dioramas constructed with Peeps. The winning entry for this year's contest was the scene of the rescue of the trapped Chilean miners, complete with the introduction of one miner to his child born while he was entombed, and also including the scene where a rescued man was greeted by both his wife and his mistress (who had become acquainted at the scene).

My favorite was this whimsical execution of the iPad2 release at the Georgetown Apple store:

We respectfully suggest that Pittsburgh's best peeps are found at the Lincoln Ave. bakery in Bellevue.

Easter in Pittsburgh Means the Lincoln Bakery in Bellevue

Religious holidays can prompt all sorts of pilgrimages. On Thursday I made my Easter pilgrimage to the Lincoln Avenue Bakery in Bellevue (543 Lincoln Ave., 412-766-0954) for their world famous Easter Peeps and Gems.

I should explain that these peeps are not made of marshmallow and sugar - these are made of delicious cake, butter cream and frosting. A Lincoln Bakery Peep is a thing that must be experienced to appreciate.

Shopping at the Lincoln Bakery is a treat in itself. The place smells awesome and is very much an old-school bakery. After getting a few boxes of peeps and gems we stopped next door at the Muddy Cup for caffeine - it was all good.

Yes, at one time there was another Peep in this box.
No, it did not make it to the blog entry.
