This is a Burgh, Bytes and Bikes trifecta.
Maya Design, from Pittsburgh's own SouthSide, has developed Sprocket, an iPad application to improve bicycle safety by using the motion sensors to generate bicycle turn signals, displayed on an iPad in a rear-facing jacket pocket.
A picture (from SouthSide Works, I believe) explains it better:
The iPad uses its accelerometers to work out what you intend to do next and flashes a signal on its screen accordingly. By sitting up straight you’ll show drivers a stop-sign, and by leaning left or right you’ll display a turn-signal.
How cool is that? Very cool.
