They are out of date, unsafe, bad for the enviornment, and not efficient at all! The best possible option available for us today is nuclear energy. The fact is that a CFB using waste coal actually produces an ash that captures and fixes sulfur, arsenic, mercury, and other potentially toxic heavy metals in insoluable oxides. Since the temperature in the CFB never reaches the point that these metals become gases, the metals are captured in the baghouse with unreacted lime which when it is deposited as required by the DEP permit forms a concrete which then seals the material. Left unused, the waste coal presents a far greater and immediate hazard to the enviroment.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
