Got Swine Flu / H1N1 ? Lucky

Pledge Week Update

Day 2 of our scheduled 5 day pledge week, and tw0 comments received today.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have a better record.

This blog's self-esteem is plummeting.
All the other blogs are laughing at me.

I'd like to move beyond this disappointment and continue with more of our scheduled blogging. This article discusses the optimal time to come down with H1N1.

Got Swine Flu / H1N1 ? Lucky

There's two kinds of people -- those that have already have H1N1 Swine Flu, and people who might get it in the future. Which leads me to say: if you're in the United States, the lucky thing to do is to get H1N1 flu right now, if not yesterday.

If you get the H1N1 flu now, you're going to be in good shape. You're probably going to be quarantined with lots of medical attention. Doctors will want to examine you and study your symptoms. The Centers for Disease Control will monitor your status and possibly exchange reports with your physician.

You're going to get the full benefit of the significant medical attention that can be brought to bear on an interesting patient in this prosperous, technologically advanced country we're blessed to live in.

Another alternative: pandemic flu really happens. The medical system is overwhelmed with patients. When there's ten people in Pittsburgh with H1N1, they're going to get great care. When there's 15,000 people in Pittbsurgh with H1N1, it's going to be field tents, rows upon rows of patients on stretchers or bunks, and triage.

It's a vicious bit of game theory, but I think you might be better off to get H1N1 earlier if (and only if) you believe we're going to see a full-blown pandemic.
